Kid's Groups
Yorktowne Psychological through it's ANEW
program is offering Kid's Groups for children
between the ages of 8 and 12 whose lives have
been affected as a result of a parent's
alcoholism or drug abuse. The groups meet on a
Saturday from 10:30 to noon or on Thursday
evenings from 6:00 to 7:30. Each group is limited
to eight children and each group is designed to
run for eight weeks with re-assessment at that
time.
By allowing your child to participate in a Kid's
Group you are providing early intervention
designed to affect your child's future in a
positive manner. The skills and activities in
which they engage will help them in the following
ways:
Improve their relationship with parents, siblings
and peers.
Learn to recognize their feelings and express
them appropriately.
Improve their self-esteem by recognizing their
strengths and abilities.
Develop some practical ways of coping with some
common problems in families.
Learn to recognize functional and dysfunctional
roles in families.
Realize they are not alone--that other children
are coping with similar problems.
